‘Bling waterlining’ is the dangerous trend we can’t get on board with

Ouch.

For those of us who can't even slap on a regular bit of eyeliner on without having tears running down our faces, 'bling waterlining' is the last thing we'd want to be doing to our eyes. Beauty blogger Sofie Peterseen started the trend earlier this month when she posted a picture of her eye with a tiny piece of necklace placed right on her waterline. According to her, she was having a "creative crisis" when she came up with the idea. Speaking to Allure she said:

"I didn't feel excited when I looked at my palettes anymore. I just got annoyed because I had so much time and all I wanted to do was makeup, but I couldn't."

Her Instagram is full of eye looks featuring everything from earring backs to safety pins. Sofie has received some criticism online for her potentially dangerous looks. On her 'bling waterlining' post, one user said: "Ouch, ouch what." Another asked: "bro, can you even blink?" While the blogger recognises the damage her trend could have on her eyes, she has said that when she gets an idea she has to run with it.

 "...It just goes so fast that I don't even manage to think about being a little careful. I felt a little bad for my eye afterward (...) I should be more careful, but I'm just glad that I don't have very sensitive eyeballs."

Craft glitter, coloured contacts, alcohol, unnecessary eye drops, and super old eye makeup that has seen more than the light of day are just a few of them. We've yet to read a health warning specifically about sticking pieces of old necklaces in there, but we're going to add them to the list anyway.
