Five makeup hacks we learned from TikTok – and actually use

TikTok has taught us a lot of things, some very useful and others not so much.

Luckily for you, we're not ones for gatekeeping so here are five TikToK makeup hacks we actually use.

Connect the dots for fab brows

That’s why Jess Carrasco (@slaybyjess) swears by this hack for getting symmetrical brows every time and now so do we.

The makeup influencer recommended drawing three small dots in line with your nose: one dot from the side of the nose, one in line with your pupil, and the last dot at the end of your eye.

From there just connect them up and you're ready to go.

Outline your eyeliner

Darlin Lantigua (@xo.xo.darlin) says creating an outline using eyeshadow and a thin brush prior to applying liquid liner is the trick for getting awing sharp enough to leave a mark.

Why? It’s much easier to clean up or fix eyeshadow than it is liquid liner, we speak from experience on this one.

Makeup, not cakeup

Cakes are for birthdays and other celebrations, no one really wants to walk around with cakey-looking makeup.

Beauty creator Jaylayah (@jaylayah_) suggests removing some of the product build-up with a clean brush in an upward motion.

Fixing sealed-up powders

Have you ever dipped into a powder eyeshadow or blush and picked up zero pigment? Well, it might be sealed in, basically, the top layer gets so compacted you can't get any colour on your brush.

Makeup artist Joelle Phillips (@joellephillips) says there's a simple solution to the problem of sealed-in powder: Grab a spoolie to flake off the top layer of the product to reveal a usable layer. 

Lashes without the struggle

False lashes are probably the hardest part of any makeup routine.

They get slip, stick to high or too low and by the end you might just settle for plain old mascara.

Kylee Fleek (@kyleefleekmakeup) suggests (especially to those with hooded eyes) applying lashes at an angle in line with winged liner. He also recommends adding glue to the top of the outer edge of the false lashes line to keep the lashes upright.
