Hijab-wearing model cast in latest L’Oréal hair campaign

A hijab-wearing model has been introduced to the latest L'Oréal campaign.

Amena Khan is the latest model to make history as the first hijab-wearing woman to be cast as a L'Oréal ambassador for hair care. She announced the news herself on Instagram this week, calling the move "game-changing." Khan wrote:

"Lately I’ve had a complex relationship with my hair feeling lacklustre. When I take off my scarf, I want my hair to be more radiant - don’t we all?"

The British model went on to say that the brand's latest campaign showcases the range of products available for different hair types around the world. Khan recently told Vogue that just because her hair isn't on display in public, that doesn't mean she doesn't want it to be healthy. She said:

"You have to wonder – why is it presumed that women (who) don’t show their hair don’t look after it? "The opposite of that would be that everyone who does show their hair only looks after it for the sake of showing it to others. And that mindset strips us of our autonomy and our sense of independence. "Hair is a big part of self-care."

Amena has been wearing a hijab in public since her early 20s. This comes after model Halima Aden made fashion history by becoming the first hijab-wearing woman to make the cover of Vogue.
