These scientifically backed components work together to protect and rejuvenate the skin, making them essential for anyone looking to maintain a youthful appearance.
“The best anti-ageing cream is sunscreen,” Eavanna explains.
“If you’re not using that, nothing else matters because the sun is what ages our skin, and if by the age of 60 we hadn’t seen sunlight, we would look like we were in our 30s.”
This striking statement shows the powerful impact of sun exposure on the skin’s ageing process.
Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays, preventing the damage that leads to wrinkles, pigmentation, and the breakdown of collagen.
Once sunscreen is in place, the next essential anti-ageing ingredient is retinol.
“Retinol has the most scientific proof behind it that it stimulates collagen, and from the age of 25 on, you’re losing 1% of collagen per annum, so you want your retinol to help stimulate that collagen.”
Collagen, a protein that gives skin its firmness and elasticity, naturally diminishes as we age, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles.
Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, has been shown in numerous studies to promote collagen production, making it a powerful tool in reducing visible signs of ageing.
Vitamin C, another scientifically proven ingredient, works in synergy with retinol to support collagen production and protect the skin from further damage.
“Vitamin C helps with that process as well,” the expert notes.
“So, retinol and Vitamin C are two that have been scientifically proven time and time and time again to actually stimulate collagen, so when it comes to anti-ageing, they are your three most important things.”
Vitamin C also offers antioxidant benefits, neutralising free radicals from sun exposure and pollution that can accelerate skin ageing.
These three ingredients - backed by science - are the most effective tools for preventing and reducing the signs of ageing.
While many products may promise miraculous results, focusing on these proven ingredients is key to maintaining youthful, healthy skin over time.
