It sounds silly but hear me out.
We all know about damage to our hair from heat and harsh dyes but I’d never considered how tough scraping your hair up is on it. It stretches the hair and puts pressure on the root unlike any other hairstyle.
I’ve always loved having it pulled up tightly – but I’ve also always lost a lot of hair during washing, brushing and drying. I have hair at the top of my neck that never seems to grow more than a few inches long and I’m convinced that my high pony habit had something to do with it.
I’m not a complete angel now but I do try as much as I can not to put my hair strain by pulling it up tightly.
With that in mind, here are three other things I do to keep it healthy and soft.
Overnight masking
I don’t always use a mask – often it’s just regular conditioner after I wet my hair. I twirl it into a bun and let it do its thing and have seen a big difference over time compared to masking for shorter periods.
Cold water
This isn’t much fun but rinsing with cold water makes a serious difference. Hot water can really damage your scalp and encourage breakages so cold water, if you can bear it, is that way to go.
Dry on a cool setting
This absolutely takes longer but really is better for your hair. Again, I don’t always do it if I’m in a hurry but it really is helpful for keeping your hair from becoming dry and snapping off.Nars finally launches the product we’ve been waiting years for
