The Ordinary is launching a hair care line this month – and we are first in line

Since its launch in 2016, The Ordinary has become a staple in my own and most of my friends’ skincare regimes – much thanks to the impressive formulas that really do what it says on the tin. Ever since it was first launched, the brand quickly became known for its science-based formulas and its no-frills approach to skincare, and women (and men) across the globe found many new favourites among the collection, with products like the blemish-busting Salicylic Acid 2 % Solution and the deeply hydrating Hyaluronic Acid 2% Solution quickly establishing themselves as cult products. And if you are a long-term fan of The Ordinary's cult skincare products (we are!), this news is bound to make you feel excited: Come next week, the brand, which is known for its highly effective and high-tech products at very affordable prices, is launching its very first products for hair – and scalp. The new haircare line consists of just three products for now – the Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair – a genius hybrid product that will leave both your hair and your body feeling squeaky clean. Then there is also the Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner, lightweight formula with a gel-like feel, which will turn your locks soft and shiny in no time. And lastly, there is the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, a serum that promises to hydrates the scalp with natural moisture to protect the skin barrier and maintain skin hydration. Because here is what so many other haircare products and lines get wrong – the entire focus is on the hair, with very little attention to the scalp. The problem? Without a healthy scalp, you will never have healthy, bouncy, beautiful hair.

Let’s talk about Sulphates

Many 'clean' beauty brands have been busy removing sulphates from products the past few years, claiming that sulphates are bad news for your hair, and can end up stripping it of moisture. Here is what The Ordinary has to say about their decision to include it in their new haircare line: "Clean Beauty" has labelled sulphates as harsh, saying that they are unkind to the skin and hair. But sulphates have a softer side. We take a different approach, following science - not trends. And so instead of removing sulphates, we researched them, and reduced them down to their essential levels, to provide a product that is: 1. Strong enough to remove buildup and impurities. ? 2. Soft enough to be gentle on the scalp and skin. ? Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair offers a gentle-is-essential approach to body and hair. It contains a milder sulphate called SLES-2 that has been incorporated into the formula to be gentle on the skin, and cleanse hair without additional colour fade."
