In a viral video, she breaks down exactly what you should do to keep your hair fresher for longer.
You may have heard that “training" your hair - washing it less frequently - can help reduce oil production.
Dr. Adel shut that down immediately and said: “Hair training is not a thing. I don’t know where this came from, but if you have greasy hair, you need to wash it more often, not less often.”
So, if you’re stretching out your washes hoping your scalp will adjust, it’s time to rethink your routine.
One of the biggest game-changers for greasy hair is pre-wash exfoliation.
Dr. Adel recommends using a gentle exfoliant like The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner.
“Apply something like this for 30 minutes before you shampoo once or twice a week,” as it helps reduce both oiliness and flakiness, keeping your scalp balanced and fresh.
If you’re not already using a clarifying shampoo, Dr. Adel says this is your sign to start.
“They remove product and scalp buildup in a way that regular shampoo honestly just could never.”
Clarifying shampoos deeply cleanse your scalp, helping to break down oil, styling products, and residue that could be making your hair greasy faster.
If you’re letting your hair air-dry, it might be making things worse.
“Air drying will make your hair greasier, faster, so put on some heat protectant and use the low setting.”
Using a blow-dryer on a low setting helps prevent excess oil buildup, leaving your hair looking fresher for longer.
So, if greasy hair is driving you crazy, try Dr. Adel’s advice and let us know how you get on.
