Gone are the days when we used to 'wash' our face with a face wipe and call it a night. We now have tailor-made skincare routines that help protect and nourish our skin instead of damaging it.
Many of us are spending hundreds on our skincare routines, but there's one common mistake we're making that may undo the benefits of the products we're using.
You may be using the most popular serum or the priciest moisturiser, but there's very little point in investing in products if you fail to change your pillowcase every night.
Lauren Rafferty, National Skincare Educator with Renaissance Skincare, explained why it's so important to change your pillowcase daily.
She told Her.ie: "As we sleep, our skin secretes oils throughout the night. This leads to a build-up of excess oils and bacteria on our pillowcases.
"Cotton is a breeding ground for bacteria to thrive, so personally I love to use a satin pillow case as bacteria won’t harbour bacteria as much as cotton.
"Changing your pillow cases once/twice a week, and switching to a new side every evening, will help prevent this bacteria from transferring onto your skin," Lauren explained.
Since trying this tip, we've noticed a major difference in our skin. We're no longer damaging our skin by sleeping on the same pillowcase for too long, and the difference we're noticing is worth that extra bit of laundry.
