However, all this time I had no idea that I was missing out on something crucial.
I have quite dry ends due to bleaching, which can also lead to a lot of frizz.
While I use the right products and follow all the right steps, I still felt like I could never achieve that silky smooth finish that I leave the salon with.
That was until my hairdresser enlightened me on something I never knew before.
We all like to use the occasional hair mask as a treat. But did you know you're actually supposed to use it along with your conditioner?
All this time I was using my masks in place of conditioner, but they have two different purposes.
According to MD Hair, conditioner is a lightweight formula that helps to lock in moisture after shampooing.
However, a hair mask goes deeper and can heal damage from heat and bleaching:
"Most of the benefits a conditioner provides are restricted to the outer layer of the hair, helping condition the hair and make it more manageable.
"On the other hand, hair masks work to deeply penetrate the inside of hair shafts to nourish, regenerate, and even heal damaged locks."
Using a mask and then a conditioner will boost moisture more compared to using one or the other.
The deep treatment will address any problems, and the conditioner will help to seal in the nutrients and moisture.
Masks can be used once or twice a week depending on your needs.
