Add us as a preferred source on Google »Poor by Katriona O'Sullivan became one of the most-read memoirs across Ireland when it was published in 2023. It is a book that comes highly recommended from everyone who reads it, and one that has remained on the bestsellers list since it's publication.
O'Sullivan will release her new memoir Hungry in 2026, and we are already counting down the days to publication day.
Hungry: A Biography of My Body will be published on April 23rd, 2026.
Raised in the poverty-stricken council estates of Coventry, Katriona’s story traces a journey shaped by hunger—both physical and emotional—as she navigates abuse, addiction, and the search for love and acceptance.
From traumatic weight-loss treatments to academic success, motherhood, recovery from addiction, and resilience, Hungry offers an intimate look at how poverty and gender shape identity, and how women are too often judged by standards imposed on them.
Katriona’s compelling narrative shines a light on the intersection of trauma, poverty, and body politics and is a call to the importance of reclaiming one’s body and voice and finding acceptance within oneself.
Katriona O’Sullivan says: “Hungry is my body’s story: it chronicles the things that have been done to my body, good and bad – it’s my story of surgeries, diets, and messed up relationships and the things I have done to try to heal my body.
"While we are all trying to shrink ourselves, some women—especially hurt women—are going to extreme lengths to silence the shame of having a female body in a world where it isn't safe to have one.
Hungry describes O' Sullivan's journey through pathological hunger. It also explores the complex impact that childhood hunger, sexual trauma, the male gaze, and unachievable body norms have had on her relationship with her body.
"This is me reclaiming my body, my voice, my story. It’s a story about survival and self-acceptance. I am thrilled to be working with a wonderful team of women to bring Hungry to life.”
Hungry: A Biography of My Body will be published on April 23rd, 2026.
