The Wedding People by Alison Espach was one of the most talked-about books of 2025, and it is set to hit the big screen.
It feels like every successful novel is being adapted for the screen, but we're particularly happy about this one.
TriStar Pictures has reportedly acquired the rights to The Wedding People. TriStar Pictures is behind Jerry Maguire, Stepmom, and Steel Magnolias, so the book is in very safe hands.
According to IMDb, Will Speck and Josh Gordon will reportedly direct the movie version of The Wedding People. Screenwriter Nicole Holofcener will pen the script.
The cast has not yet been confirmed, but fans of the novel hope to see Lizzy Caplan play Phoebe and Lili Reinhart as Lila.
Others believe Meghann Fahy should play Phoebe, and Zoey Deutch should play Lila.
“It’s rare to read something that feels like real life, in all the best ways. .. funny, painful, cathartic, and lasting. A throwback to the movies we grew up on with a modern sensibility. This is a story we can’t wait to tell,” Speck and Gordon told IMDb.
Phoebe Stone arrives at a grand beachside hotel in Rhode Island wearing her best dress and least comfortable shoes. Immediately, she is mistaken for one of the wedding people - but she's actually the only guest at the Cornwall Inn who isn't here for the big event.
When the bride discovers her elaborate destination wedding could be ruined by a divorced and depressed stranger, she is furious. Lila has spent months accounting for every detail and every possible disaster - except for, well, Phoebe . . . Soon, both women find their best-laid plans derailed and an unlikely confidante in one another.
