Chrissy Teigen wants everyone to have access to IVF

She thinks it should be a right, not a privilege.

Model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen has been very open and honest about her struggles to get pregnant. All of Teigen's children, Luna, Miles and Jack, were conceived through IVF, but Teigen doesn't think the treatment should only be for the wealthy. The 35-year-old recently spoke about how blessed she feels to have been able to have her children thanks to IVF, but she realises that it is not something everyone can afford. Teigen went on to say that she doesn't think this is fair and that everyone should have access to IVF;

"I'm so lucky for [IVF], I just think of it in terms of how blessed I am already, and also there are so many ways to have a child nowadays ... whether it's surrogacy or adoption. I can't imagine life without more children. For me what's really important is being able to make sure that everybody has access to those ways and making sure that people are able to make their dreams come true."

In the United States were Teigen received her IVF treatments, the procedure can cost well into the tens of thousands and only a few States allow it to be covered by medical insurance. In Ireland IVF is also incredibly expensive, with a round of treatment (which some people can need several) costing anywhere between €4,500 and €5,000. As it stands Ireland currently does not offer public funding towards IVF and is the only country in Europe not to offer state funding for assisted reproduction. I think Teigen is absolutely right and agree that IVF should be an option for anyone who needs it. One out of every six couples in Ireland will experience fertility issues so there should be more State funded assistance to help in regards to conceiving.
