Jamie Dornan responds to Wild Mountain Thyme accent criticism

"I'm from Ireland and we're known for taking the piss pretty much out of everything."

Irish actor Jamie Dornan has admitted that he won't "lose sleep" over comments about his accent in the upcoming Irish film Wild Mountain Thyme. The Fifty Shades of Grey lead-man has been the subject of some light slagging over his character's accent in the trailer for the film. When asked by Sky News how he feels about the criticism, the Down actor revealed that it doesn't really bother him. "It's kind of par for the course," he said. "I'm from Ireland and we're known for taking the piss pretty much out of everything. It almost comes with the territory." He continued: "I think that's fine, and at the end of the day, everyone's going to have their opinion. We are doing the accents that we planned to do." Dornan added that at this stage of his career, he's become accustomed to criticism. "There's so many dialects based on a very small island," he said. "And I get the piss taken out of me for the way I sound all the time, just as me. "A lot of people don't understand me all the time, and that's fine. That's something I've dealt with my whole life." Additionally, his co-star Emily Blunt addressed the criticism she's received for her performance, but added that Wild Mountain Thyme is about much more than the accents. "I think it was sort of expected in some ways," the actress said. "I think we all knew it on the day." Blunt added that as neither of them are from the area the film's set, their goal was just to try their best. She continued: "Luckily, this film is not really about accents. It's about something much bigger than that. So I think we took it all fairly lightly."
