Just weeks ago, the Film and Television Industry Alliance confirmed that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now in the pre-production phase, categorised as a feature film.
While specifics are still being finalised, filming is scheduled to begin on November 30th, 2024, though the locations for shooting have yet to be confirmed.
The sequel promises to bring back the drama of the original, this time focusing on Miranda Priestly approaching the end of her career.
According to early plot details, Miranda - played by Meryl Streep in the original - faces the decline of traditional print magazines.
Her main competitor? None other than her former assistant Emily Charlton, now a powerful executive at a luxury fashion group.
As the two clash for critical advertising money, the sequel looks poised to explore the shifting landscape of the fashion industry.
David Frankel, who directed the 2006 film, will return to helm the sequel, while Wendy Finerman will once again produce.
The original film, adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, is loosely based on Weisberger’s own experiences working as an assistant to Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue.
The 2006 film starred Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a recent college graduate who lands an improbable job as Miranda Priestly’s assistant at Runway Magazine.
Throughout the film, Andy navigates the cutthroat world of fashion while attempting to remain true to herself, despite the pressures of working for the intimidating Miranda.
Although there’s been no official word on the returning cast, fans are already speculating about the return of Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.
Blunt, who portrayed the sharp-tongued Emily Charlton in the original, recently addressed rumours of the sequel.
This week, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stanley questioned whether the sequel had been officially confirmed: “Is it, is it official?”
When asked whether he would reprise the role of Nigel for the second film, the actor said: “I cannot answer those questions on the ground that they will incriminate everyone.
“All I know is my fingers are crossed that it actually does happen, cause we know how movies go.”
He went on to say: “It would be great,it was an incredible experience, and I love those three women.
“So my fingers are crossed, [me and Emily Blunt] have talked about it. You see, I’m being very cagey, and I’m sorry.”
Aline Brosh McKenna, the screenwriter who adapted the first movie from Weisberger’s 2003 novel, has also been confirmed to be working on the sequel’s script, much of the plot remains under wraps.
