We all try so hard to take care of our teeth but this mistake undoes all of that effort.
A dental hygienist at Chelsea Dental Clinic said failing to replace your toothbrush regularly can cause more damage than we realise.
She said: "Regardless of whether you have an electric or manual brush, you need to be changing your brush head at least every three months.
"The best way to tell if you need to change your brush is to hold it up and, from the back, if you can see the bristles splaying out - that means you need a new head," she said.
The dental hygienist also stressed that brushing too hard can also damage your teeth and gums. She said brushes that are wearing down quicker than usual are a sign that you're brushing your teeth too hard.
"If you're scrubbing too hard with your toothbrush, this can lead to loss of enamel - which can make your teeth appear more yellow - or you can get a recession, which is where the gum shrinks away.
She added: "Neither of these look particularly attractive and can also cause lots of other problems."
Experts believe toothbrushes should be replaced every three to four months.
You should also change your toothbrush if you've been unwell.
