The amount of Easter eggs consumed in Ireland each year is ridiculous

That's A LOT of chocolate.

In the weeks leading up to the big day, there's no denying that there is a greater hunger for the milk chocolatey goodness. Yes, with shops overflowing with Easter eggs and till points basically begging you to purchase some miniature bunny or another, it's no surprise that our consumption of Easter eggs on the day itself would be a high figure indeed. Well, the figures have been totted up by the folks at Repak and it turns out that in 2016 we ate 17.7 million Easter eggs. What's more, they expect that figure to rise again. Let's break that down for a minute. There are 4.7million people living in Ireland, according to the latest Census, so that means roughly three and a half Easter eggs per person. Not everyone is going to eat one so that would mean even more for some people. Furthermore, three in four people will spend up to €40 on Easter eggs this weekend and one in four people say that they will be buying eight Easter eggs in total this year.  The findings from the Repak survey also found that only half of people admit to properly recycling their Easter egg containers. Repak is encouraging everyone to recycle this Easter - after we've scoffed our faces full of chocolate, that is.
