Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake to land in Ireland next week

The controversial character is coming to Ireland!

It’s the most controversial news story (ahem!) of the year, and now that Cuthbert the Caterpillar is a proper A-list celeb, Aldi is bringing him over to Irish shelves and wants to donate all profits to the Irish Cancer Society. Cuthbert will go on sale in all 145 Aldi stores nationwide from the May 20 priced at €7.99, with all profits from sales being donated to the Irish Cancer Society. Cuthbert, however, is only making a fleeting visit to Aldi Ireland, so make sure you head to your nearest store on the 20th May if you fancy getting your hands on one of the cakes - and donating to a worthy cause. Cuthbert is also doing a charity skydive to help raise even more funds for the Irish Cancer Society, and Aldi is encouraging people to show him some support by sponsoring his dive via his JustGiving page. Good enough to eat and gives to a good cause. I haven't met him yet but this Cuthbert fella seems like a sound lad to me. This comes after reports that Aldi was embroiled in a legal battle with M&S regarding the imagery of their original caterpillar cake, Colin the Caterpillar.  Earlier this year, Marks and Spencers launched court action against Aldi, claiming that they are infringing on the trademark of their iconic Colin the Caterpillar cake. Marks and Spencer lodged an intellectual property claim in the UK's high court, maintaining  that Aldi's Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake is misleading to consumers, and will damage the reputation of their beloved birthday party staple. A spokesperson for the supermarket said: "Because we know the M&S brand is special to our customers and they expect only the very best from us, love and care goes into every M&S product on our shelves. "So we want to protect Colin, Connie and our reputation for freshness, quality, innovation and value."
