1. Stay on top of pollen by vacuuming and damp dusting to stop pollen settling and spreading. This is a good idea for all allergies, like pet allergies or conditions like asthma.
2. The best defence is a good offence. Use an allergy barrier to get on top of hayfever before it begins. I always like to have a packet of Claritin in my handbag.
3. Try rubbing a small amount of petroleum jelly inside your lower nostril to stop pollen entering the nasal passage. This is a really good tip, particularly for small children who are too young to take antihistamines.
4. Reduce airborne allergens at home and use a humidifier, moist air will catch particles.
5. With all the good weather we've been having, it's hard to stay indoors. If you have been out and about though, change your clothes and even shower to remove pollen and avoid spreading it.
6. I get the worst swollen eyes during hayfever season. If you're similar, a pair of wraparound sunglasses is a great way to keep pollen out of your eyes.
7. This one can be hard when it's roasting outside but if you’re driving keep your windows up. Use the air conditioning inside the car and switch your air to circulate.
8. During the summer I have a non-functioning nose, inflammation and blockages aplenty. Consider using an anti-inflammatory nasal spray.
9. If your eyes are affected by hayfever, eye drops can help soothe them. I know a lot of people aren't fans of eye drops. If this is the case for you, try a soothing eye mist instead.
10. Antihistamines have different ingredients so if one tablet isn't working for you, consider swapping to another type. Sometimes it's about trial and error but your pharmacist will be able to assist in finding the right fit for you.Health
