So why is that? With all the technology and resources we have in 2016, you'd think we'd have found a treatment for something as pesky as period pains? But still, no banana.
As it turns out, there hasn't been enough research done because it is not deemed a serious enough problem.
According to ResearchGate, there have been five times more studies completed on the problem of erectile dysfunction in males than premenstrual syndrome in women.
The main problem hindering researchers from carrying out studies is that they can’t agree on what the symptoms of PMS actually are, as many women suffer from different symptoms.
A professor from the University of Washington, Kathleen Lustyk, told of how grants she applied for were rejected as premenstrual syndrome is:
"... merely a product of our society or culture that has painted a natural process in a negative light and that, given its monthly predictability, leads to suffering through anticipation." "I suspect this is a fancy way of saying it’s really just in a woman’s head."
