Carson says the shower is the best place to unleash your creative mind, as you enter a relaxed state but you’re still alert:
“If you were to come up with a problem that you wanted to solve creatively, and you were working and working on it and couldn’t come up with a solution, then you could put it on the back burner of your mind and allow it to stew there while unconscious processes mull it over.”
Carson adds that when you relax, “your cognitive processes relax, renew, and regenerate” and your ideas and solutions will effortlessly present themselves.
On the other hand, if you’re a person who finds it hard to switch off hours after bedtime, it’s time you suds yourself to sleep.
A nighttime shower will help you regulate your body temperature – bringing you to a natural snooze.
Christopher Winter, MD at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, says:
“That rapid cooling after you get out of the shower or out of the bath tends to be a natural sleep inducer. So it’s a nice way to fool your body into thinking it’s time to go to bed.”
The relaxing shower also helps reduce cortisol levels, which can ease stress and help you fall into a slumber.
Obviously, things aren’t always cut and dry (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves).
Experts suggest changing your shower routine throughout the week to help encourage deeper sleeping and reduced stress levels.
