Lend A Hand – Five Great Irish Causes To Get Behind This Week

Every week in the Her.ie offices we are inundated with requests from people asking us to help them promote their charity events. While every cause is worthwhile, unfortunately we can’t get around to all of them and so for that reason, we have decided to put together some of these events from around the country. Every week, we will feature five events you should get behind or get involved with over the next few months. There are tonnes of amazing organisations in this country, let’s help them out. 1. The Biggest Ray in the Bay, Fishing Competition. Clifden Fishing are holding a fishing competition as a fundraiser for Clifden RNLI. For online registration, you can log on to the Clifden Sea Ray website. All details for the competition are below. 2. Women on the Water, in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research.    Baltimore Sailing Club, West Cork, is to hold a fundraiser for Breakthrough Cancer Research on Tuesday August 12th next to raise much needed funds for cancer research.  The fundraiser, entitled WOW – Women on the Water for Breakthrough Cancer Research, will see women take to the water in all sorts of craft and boat classes, vying to win coveted prizes and raising funds through their entrance fee, while those around them help to augment these funds through sponsorship cards. Sponsorship cards can be obtained from Baltimore Sailing Club, or email [email protected]. To register for participation in the event please call to Baltimore Sailing Club during office hours, including Saturdays and Sundays or register on the day from 1pm. Adults participating on the water - €25 euro, children €10. 3. Brown Bags Films, Charity Equinox Cycle. On Saturday 27th September over 50 cyclists will cycle over 230km from Dublin to Youghal for the annual Equinox Charity Cycle, aiming to raise €20,000 for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and acquired brain injury charity Headway. The cycle will begin at sunrise (7 am) at Clontarf in Dublin where the cyclists will dip their back wheels into the Irish Sea. At sunset twelve hours later they will dip their front wheels on the beaches in Youghal. The team will stop in Naas, Athy, Callan, Carrick-On-Siur and Dungarvan along the way. Experience the capital city of Ireland with the 2nd Annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon on Monday, August 4, 2014! Following the huge success of the inaugural race in 2013, the Rock'n'Roll Dublin Half Marathon is back for 2014. The marathon have announced Special Olympics Ireland as the Official Charity for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon 2014.  Special Olympics Ireland will receive a direct donation for every athlete that registers as well as fantatsic  branding and promotional benefits to help their worthy cause. Register Today to help Special Olympics Ireland! 5. Women's Aid. Women's Aid is a leading national organisation that has been working in Ireland to stop domestic violence against women and children since 1974. The Women's Aid National Freephone Helpline (1800 341 900) operates from 10am to 10pm, every day of the year (except Christmas day), and provides support and information to callers experiencing abuse from intimate partners. The Women's Aid Helpline is the only free, national, domestic violence helpline with specialised trained staff, fully accredited by The Helplines Association and with a Telephone Interpretation Service facility covering 170 languages for callers needing interpreting services.
