High Court grants Ryanair injunction preventing planned strike

The decision was made by the High Court on Wednesday.

The High Court has granted Ryanair an injunction preventing a planned strike over the next two days by some of the airline's pilots based in Ireland. The planned strike was in relation to a long-running dispute over pay, working conditions, pensions and related issues, according to Fórsa. Ryanair have since released a statement, welcoming the High Court's decision to prevent the strike. In the statement, the airline called on Fórsa and the pilots planning to strike to return to mediation, while also announcing that "all Ryanair flights scheduled to depart on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 from Irish airports will now operate as normal". They also said that passengers should arrive at their departure airport two hours prior to their scheduled departure time. The Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (IALPA) had submitted a 30-page proposal to Ryanair management in March of this year, which sought pay levels and structures it says are in line with sector norms. Fórsa national secretary Angela Kirk said Ryanair pilots told her they’d been forced into industrial action by the company’s failure to offer any significant response to their proposals over a four-month period. IALPA are said to be seeking pay levels it believes are common and competitive in the commercial airline sector, from the airline "that made a substantial profit of €1 billion last year".
