Ryanair, known for its strict policies, has announced a major update starting in May 2025.
From that time, the airline will only accept digital boarding passes, meaning passengers will no longer have the option to print their boarding passes at the airport.
While many travellers already use the mobile option, Ryanair says this move will help streamline the check-in process and reduce paperwork.
Currently, if you forget to check in online, Ryanair will charge a €20 fee to print your boarding pass at the airport.
If you forget completely and end up needing to get a pass at the terminal, that fee moves to €55. But once the new system is in place, the only option will be to use the Ryanair app, eliminating the paper pass altogether.
Another key update travellers should be aware of is Ryanair’s hand luggage restrictions.
While passengers can bring one small personal bag for free (40x20x25 cm), larger bags that don't meet the size limit could cost you up to €70 at the gate.
If you're looking to avoid checked baggage fees, it’s essential to stay within these limits.
Ryanair also offers the option to pay for Priority Boarding, which allows you to bring a second, larger cabin bag on board.
For those trying to make the most of Ryanair’s baggage policy, there are bags specifically designed to fit the airline's strict size rules.
Finally, Ryanair advises passengers to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. If you're flying, make sure to get there at least 40 minutes before departure to avoid a €100 missed departure fee.
This fee applies if you're late to check-in or miss your flight by over an hour.
Dublin Airport currently recommends arriving two hours before departure for short-haul flights and three hours for long-haul.
By staying on top of these new rules, passengers avoid a stressful experience when flying with Ryanair.
