Large bulge in man’s trousers turns out to be four smuggled kittens

A large bulge spotted inside a man's trousers has turned out to be four smuggled kittens.

The kittens were discovered after a distinct meowing sound was heard coming from the man's crotch when he was attempting to travel from Malaysia into Singapore. Checkpoint officials the searched the 45-year-old man and found the kittens concealed in his pants. They said that getting past their "fur-midable officers" was "impawsible." "On 2 Jan, ICA officers detected four live kittens concealed in the pants of a 45-year-old male Singaporean in a Singapore-registered car at Tuas Checkpoint," they wrote on Facebook. 

"Officers were prompted to conduct further checks when they heard “meowing” sounds coming from a bulge in his pants. "Smuggled animals are of unknown health status and may introduce exotic diseases, such as rabies, to Singapore."

The importation of illegal animals or birds into Singapore carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a maximum fine of $10,000, or both. Officials said that this kind of concealment is particularly concerning as it suggests that many others are attempting to bring illegal animals across the border illegally. The kittens are currently in the care of the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA).
