"Officers were prompted to conduct further checks when they heard “meowing” sounds coming from a bulge in his pants. "Smuggled animals are of unknown health status and may introduce exotic diseases, such as rabies, to Singapore."
The importation of illegal animals or birds into Singapore carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a maximum fine of $10,000, or both.
Officials said that this kind of concealment is particularly concerning as it suggests that many others are attempting to bring illegal animals across the border illegally.
