Body of Irish woman found on yacht in New York

She was found dead on a docked yacht in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Carlow-born Martha Nolan O’Slatarra (33) was found dead on a yacht when it docked at Montauk Yacht Club in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The yacht club is a popular lakefront club located on the north coast of East Hampton.

Detectives and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office are now investigating all circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

The Irish woman was a successful marketing consultant, entrepreneur, and founder of the fashion brand East x East. She moved stateside when she was 26 to pursue her career.

Police have issued a statement in which a spokesperson said emergency services attended the scene following a call regarding an 'unconscious woman'.

"East Hampton Town Police responded to a 911 call from a man reporting a woman unconscious on a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club, on Star Island Road, at approximately 12 a.m. Good Samaritans attempted to perform CPR on the woman.

“Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, 33, of Manhattan, was pronounced dead on the boat by First Responders," read the statement.

"The preliminary investigation and exam were inconclusive regarding the cause of death, which will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.”

Speaking to the Irish Independent, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that they are aware of the case and are providing consular assistance.

“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases," added the spokesperson.

Just last year, the well-known businesswoman spoke to The Irish Independent about her love of fashion and being an entrepreneur.

She explained her inspiration to merge her 'love for travel' and knowledge of marketing, as well as her 'hard work mindset' and determination.

“Carlow is a small town, and I was the small-town girl who needed to get out to achieve her big dreams.

“I always knew I wanted to be successful, that I was money driven, business driven, and that fashion is a tough industry and it would be a slow road," she added.

The young woman studied commerce at UCD and completed a Master’s in digital marketing at Smurfit Business School.

Investigations are ongoing.
