Woman and husband found dead in boat after attempting to cross Atlantic Ocean

The couple were experienced sailors and had embarked on a big adventure together.

70-year-old Brett Clibbery and 54-year-old Sarah Packwood were reported missing on 18 June and found three weeks later on 10 July.

The couple regularly posted videos from their travels on on a Youtube channel called Theros Adventures, and their most recent upload came just a month ago.

While formal identification of the bodies is yet to take place, the son of Brett Clibbery announced their death via a Facebook post on 13 July.

"The past few days have been very hard," James Clibbery wrote. "My father James Brett Clibbery , and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood have regrettably passed away.

"There is still an investigation, as well as a DNA test to confirm, but with all the news, it is hard to remain hopeful. So far this has made it to several news outlets around the country, and I have only just spoken to the coroner today.

"I am so very sorry to the people who were friends of them," he added. "They were amazing people, and there isn't anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far unexplained passing.

"Living will not be the same without your wisdom, and your wife was quickly becoming a beacon of knowledge, and kindness. I miss your smiles. I miss your voices. You will be forever missed."

"I have been friends and colleagues with Sarah since the hazy days of the Tsunami," she added. "She was an inspirational colleague, a fantastic friend and an all round great human.

"Sarah and Brett were sailing to the Azures from Canada on a trip called The Green Odyssey on board Theros - GibSea 42 foot sailboat. Powered by the wind and sun.

"Sarah, I hope where you are now there are plenty of decks to sit on, buildings to create, Camino's to walk and Oceans to sail and you and Brett will be together forever."

As their friend mentioned, the pair were heading to the region of Azores - an autonomous region of Portugal - having left Halifax Harbour on 11 June on board their yacht named Theros, Canadian police said.

Their bodies were found after their raft washed ashore on Sable Island, around 108 miles southeast of mainland Nova Scotia, The Vancouver Sun reported.

The couple had dubbed their latest adventure the 'Green Odyssey', a nod to the yacht being powered by a battery from an electric Nissan Leaf car and six solar panels.

"We’re doing everything we can to show that you can travel without burning fossil fuels," Clibbery said in the video, posted on April 12.

"It’s probably the biggest adventure of our lives so far," Packwood added.
