Cassie Stokes shares message of love after vile attack on The George

Pictures of a horrible attack on one of Dublin’s largest gay bars flooded social media yesterday.

Images of the attack on The George were shared in the thousands yesterday after vandals graffitied the bar with homophobic slurs. The attack comes almost two years to the day since Ireland voted in favour of the same-sex marriage referendum.

However, while the image circulated online, one person refused to share the picture. Xposé presenter Cassie Stokes took to Facebook yesterday to share a much more important message – one of love.

“Instead of sharing that picture of The George in Dublin that’s going around, I’m posting a picture of myself and my girlfriend who always hope to spread love not hate. "This weekend is about celebrating two years of marriage equality in Ireland. Love is love.”

The George have also come out to share their thanks with everyone for sending well-wishes and messages of support, saying:

"Thanks for all the support and messages today. We are shocked and truly disheartened to see our building vandalised especially with the anniversary of the equality vote this weekend. "But at a time like this our community has come together in support, like it always does. We won't let this ruin us celebrating today's anniversary."

The graffiti has since been removed and Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing.
