Detectives find new evidence linking Christian B’s van to Maddie McCann case

Investigators dealing with the search for Madeleine McCann have claimed that there has been a huge development in the case as it marks the 15th anniversary. On Monday night, a member of the team claimed that they found new evidence in a camper van that belonged to prime suspect, Christian B. Speaking again yesterday, Hans-Christian Wolter said: "We have found new facts and new evidence. “It’s not forensic evidence but evidence and because of our evidence, we are sure he is the murderer of Madeleine McCann. “We are sure he killed Madeleine.” He was speaking on Portuguese TV on the 15th anniversary of her abduction after it was speculated that fibres from Madeleine’s pyjamas were found. Maddie was said to be wearing pink Eeyore pyjamas when she was taken from the Portuguese resort and this would be the first time they have been seen since that night. During the show, Wolters was questioned about this, being asked: "Is it true you did find something belonging to Madeleine in the caravan of Christian B?” He replied: “I can’t comment on details of the investigation.” The host then added: “But you can’t deny it, can you?” He responded: “I don’t want to deny it,” before adding that he couldn't speak about it as “the suspect has not yet been informed.” Christian B has denied involvement in her disappearance and claims he was miles away at the time the toddler was taken. Police are currently searching for forensic evidence that can link him to the case. Prosecutors in Portugal last week officially declared a formal suspect in the ongoing case and he is understood to be an unnamed German man. According to BBC News, Portuguese officials referred to the individual as an "arguido" – which translates as 'named suspect' or 'person of interest' – while acting on the request of German authorities. In 2020, 44-year-old Christian Brueckner, or Christian B, was named as the prime suspect in the case looking into McCann's 2007 disappearance, with German prosecutors reportedly "100% convinced" he is the man responsible. Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping a 72-year-old American woman at her home on the Algarve.
