‘It doesn’t make sense’: Met Éireann rejects UK Met Office forecast

Met Éireann has dismissed a prediction that the current spell of warm weather could last into October.

The British Met Office has said that this summer and early autumn could be the hottest on record and has made a long-range forecast about the next few months. "For August-October, above-average temperatures are more likely than below-average." This could hint at what kind of weather we here in Ireland could expect into September and October - but Met Éireann has rejected the prediction. It says that forecast beyond ten days aren't accurate. "It doesn't make sense to me," a spokesperson for Met Éireann told The Irish Independent. "You can't forecast that long in advance, a maximum of 10 days ahead. "What I can see is only hot weather for [today] until the end of Tuesday, and then it's kind of over. "High temperatures will occur in the south-east of the UK and we won't get any of it." Today sees the beginning of the end for our good spell of weather in Ireland, meanwhile. Met Éireann has said that today will be cloudy with potential rain and drizzle, though clearer weather is expected to break through in the north west in the afternoon. Temperatures of 16 to 18 are forecast, though they could reach 19 to 22 degrees in the east and south. Tomorrow will be cooler with some scattered showers and periods of sunshine. It's expected to stay like this for the next few days, though there'll be rain towards the end of the week.
