Dr Jill Biden goes back to teaching via Zoom from the White House

Dr Jill Biden has started teaching again via Zoom link direct from the White House. The First Lady is a professor at Northern Virginia Community College and has said that she intends to keep her job full time while living in Washington DC. Dr Biden also kept her job during the eight years she was Second Lady under the Obama administration. In her first interview as First Lady, she told PEOPLE: "I taught all eight years that I was second lady. That's my passion, that's my life." President Biden added that teaching gives his wife "energy," even though it is a lot of work - especially over Zoom. "The students she teaches, these are foreign students or people who weren't the people who graduated from high school, but they're remaking their lives," he said. "It's an inspiration. It's energy for Jill, but it's a lot of work." Dr Biden is the first ever FLOTUS to keep her full time job while working from the White House. "She will really be bringing the role of first lady into the 21st century," first-lady historian Katherine Jellison told US Today last year. "Americans have historically wanted their first ladies to be in the White House and at the president's side whenever possible. "Maybe the time has come when Americans will be more accepting of the idea that a president's wife can simultaneously be a first lady and a working professional." At the time Dr Biden added that regardless of the outcome of last year's election, she always wanted to continue teaching. "If we get to the White House, I'm going to continue to teach," she told CBS last August. "I want people to value teachers and know their contributions and to lift up the profession. She also told Vogue in 2019 that the beauty of being the First Lady "is that you can define it however you want." "And that's what I did as second lady – I defined that role the way I wanted it to be. I would still work on all the same issues. Education would be right up there, and military families. I'd travel all over this country trying to get free community college."
