Dublin school closed and teenager arrested after making ‘online threats’ against staff

A secondary school in north Dublin has been closed after online threats were reportedly issued against staff members.

Gardai confirmed that a 16-year-old boy has been arrested after an investigation into the incident. The teenager is currently being detained at a Dublin garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 The Irish Independent report that Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan messaged parents to let them know the school would be shut today as the investigation continued. A garda spokesperson confirmed that they are liaising with the management at the school, but are now satisfied there is "no imminent danger" to the staff or students at the school. The full statement issued by gardai says:

“We are dealing with an online incident relating to a north Dublin school. “Gardai are investigating reports of online threats against staff at a school in the north Dublin area. “It’s understood the material was circulated online yesterday evening. “Following the reports an investigation was commenced and a 16-year-old youth has since been arrested. “He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Dublin Garda Station. The investigation is ongoing “Gardai are liaising with management at the school and are now satisfied that there is no imminent danger to staff or students attending the school.”
