Add us as a preferred source on Google »Irish musician and actor Steve Wall has voiced his shock at the "mental" €75 taxi fare he was hit with, after being driven from Harold's Cross to Dublin Airport.
Wall is a founding member of Irish rock bands The Stunning and The Walls and was recently seen onscreen acting in such big projects as the Netflix series Black Doves, as well as the movies Dune: Part Two, Oddity and Barber.
Posting on Twitter on Monday, the rocker wrote: "What’s going on with taxi prices? Just got charged €75 to the airport from Harold’s Cross which never cost more than €35 approx.
"It cost more than my flight…mental! Booked it via @FreeNow_IE No air coach service nearby. @TFIupdates."
The post earned over 200 comments and around 1,000 likes, with Wall later clarifying that the taxi did not travel through the Dublin Port Tunnel or on M50 - instead going straight through town.
On Wednesday, the musician and actor issued a follow-up on Twitter stating that he had been refunded in full by FreeNow - with the taxi service saying the unusually high fare was down to a technical glitch.
In a statement to JOE, a FreeNow spokesperson said: “At FreeNow, passengers are our number one priority and we are committed to providing accurate and fair billing.
"Taxi fares in Ireland are set by the National Transport Authority. Regarding this particular instance, we have completed an internal investigation and have been in touch with the passenger directly.
"We are taking appropriate action to prevent this technical glitch from happening again."
