Iarnród Éireann has confirmed that Kishoge train station is finally set to open 15 years after it was built.
The long-awaited station sits on the Heuston Commuter line between Clondalkin and Adamstown and was intended to serve up to 15,000 homes at the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ).
Irish Rail hoped to open the Kishoge station at the end of 2022, however it was further delayed due to 'extensive works' required to refurbish it.
It has now been announced that the station will open for service on Monday, August 26.
Ahead of its official opening, a deep clean was needed for the station built in 2009.
Repairs to the platform and concourse, upgrades to mechanical and electrical equipment and new signing all had to be installed.
It is said that the cost of this investment for the station will total €3.8 million and that its opening will deliver a “fast and frequent service” to both Heuston Station and, via the Phoenix Park Tunnel, to all stations between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock.
Dublin Mid-West Deputy Mark Ward said: "This is the first time that I have received a precise date, so I expect this to be the date that it opens."
"This vital transport link was proposed to facilitate the population of Clonburris SDZ and was developed in 2009.
"The crash halted the delivery of these homes and this put a stop on the opening of the station.
“We are now seeing the delivery of these homes in Clonburris and, rightfully, these new residents will have a train route into the city."
