Add us as a preferred source on Google »A Co. Kilkenny community has been left devastated following the death of a 14-year-old boy in an e-scooter accident on Saturday.
The victim has been named as Joe Carthy.
He was rushed to hospital following the accident but sadly died from his injuries at St. Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny.
Nobody else was injured in the accident.
The teenager was fishing with his brother Willie before the accident occurred. He was heading home to Bonnetstown when he was hit by a car on the Tullaroan Road on Saturday evening.
Tributes have been pouring in for the young boy following his untimely passing.
Joe has been fondly remembered as a 'funny' and 'happy' boy.
His brother told The Sunday World: "He was a funny little young fella. He was happy. He was always jolly."
Gardaí have launched an investigation following the young boy's passing.
They stated: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Co. Kilkenny on Saturday, 27th July 2024.
"The collision involving an e-scooter and a car occurred on the Tullaroan Road at Bonnettstown shortly before 6:30 pm.
"A male youth, 14 years old, travelling on the e-scooter was transferred to St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny where he has since passed away from his injuries."
Gardaí confirmed the local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will take place in due course.
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Tullaroan Road between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."
