Family of young girl stabbed in Parnell attack share update six months on

The five-year-old was left critically injured during the attack.

The child's family have been sharing regular updates on a GoFundMe which was established in the days following the attack.

Marking six months from the horrific attack, they wrote: "Today is the 6-month mark. We choose to say it is a 6-month anniversary of our rebirth. Our little star has been thriving in her therapies.

"She is on full feeds via her tummy, moving her limbs quite well and purposefully, making choices and answering questions. Her cognition is there, for sure.

"Thank you all so much for the lovely messages, support, love and prayers sent our way."

In another update, shared just over a month ago, the family wrote: "Hi there, great milestones for our little big warrior - she has started on feeds now (not orally yet) and moving her arms a good bit.

"She is enjoying her Irish lessons with the Hospital School. And loves watching Paddington 1 and 2 for laughs. Huge achievements."

At the beginning of the year, the young girl’s family confirmed she had entered the third stage of her recovery.

The family said that this would be the longest stage of her recovery as she needs to relearn everything due to the injuries she suffered.

“This will be the longest as she will relearn everything as a result of her injury. She has done really well thus far and the medical team is very happy with her improvement,” they wrote.

“Once again, she is so strong and we are proud to be by her side supporting her, guiding her, and, above all, loving her every step of the way."

Later in January, however, the family revealed that the child that the child had suffered a "setback" and was back in ICU.

In another update in mid-February, the girl's family said she was "back on the ward and almost over this bump in the road".

The child's GoFundMe page is still open for donations. Over €92,000 has been raised for her so far.

Two other children, aged five and six, were also injured in the attack. They were released from the hospital shortly after.

Creche worker, Leanne Flynn Keogh, was also injured after she intervened to protect children from the attacker.

The hero was in a critical condition in hospital but was released earlier this year.

On the evening of the attack, riots broke out in the capital with millions of euros worth of damage done to infrastructure.

Garda cars were set on fire, as well as trams and buses, while numerous shops were looted.
