The five-year-old boy tragically died after colliding with a car in County Laois on Saturday, February 22nd.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Kilminchy, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.
The collision involving a pedestrian and a car occurred at approximately 4.20 pm on Saturday afternoon.
A male pedestrian, aged 5 years was fatally injured and was removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise in a serious condition.
He was pronounced dead a short time later and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The female driver of the car, aged in his 40s was not injured.
The road remained closed overnight and a technical examination is due to be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators today.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in Kilminchy, Portlaoise, Co. Laois between 4:00pm and 5:00pm this afternoon are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
