The young girl was cycling her bike with her father when she was knocked down by an oil delivery lorry.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Headford Road, Galway, on Saturday, 5th April 2025, at approximately 12.05 pm.
The female pedal cyclist, aged six years, was fatally injured as a result of the collision.
Her body was removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Galway.
A post-mortem will take place in due course.
The male driver of the truck, who was in his 30s, was not injured.
The local community is heartbroken following the tragic accident.
Local councillor John McDonagh told The Irish Mirror:
"Everyone is absolutely shocked on hearing the tragic news of the six-year-old girl who died on Saturday and the motorcyclist who died on Friday.
"Saturday was a lovely, sunny day with children outside playing and enjoying themselves, and then this tragedy happened. It’s awful.
"You could tell it was a major accident as there were about four or five emergency vehicles at the scene. My deepest condolences go to the little girl’s family and friends and to the motorcyclist’s family and friends."
Gardaí are investigating the harrowing accident.
Gardaí are urging witnesses to come forward following this tragedy.
