Add us as a preferred source on Google »After a stunning taste of summer last week, the drop in temperatures and darkening skies seem to have taken over, but fear not, the good weather is not gone forever.
While the country is set for some rainy conditions this week, the sunny spells are forecast to make a return as we head into the second week of June.
This week (beginning June 2) will be unsettled and increasingly cool, with rain or showers expected most days and breezy conditions at times.
The wettest and windiest day is set to come on Thursday before Friday starts brighter with showers spreading eastwards later in the day.
The weekend remains uncertain, though further rain or showers are likely, with temperatures remaining in the mid to high teens.
Cathan Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel has suggested that the recent spell of 'hurricane-season-like' weather may be linked to El Niño conditions, a period of unusually warm sea temperatures in the tropical Pacific that affects global weather patterns.
However, it's not all bad news, as conditions are expected to improve again between 9 and 11 June.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather also identified a similar timeframe for some 'settled warm weather' to return.
Keep going soldiers, the sun will shine again!
