The recall notice went on to advise of the symptoms associated with Listeria monocytogenes infection, so that people can keep an eye out if they have consumed any of the contaminated meat.
They can include “mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.”
There are a number of groups who would be considered ”more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections,” the warning states.
These include pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
The incubation period - the time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing - is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.
