Add us as a preferred source on Google »We can all agree that Irish pupils are pretty lucky when it comes to the mammoth amount of time off they get.
Between lengthy summer holidays, multiple midterms, and public holidays, they can enjoy plenty of time away from the classroom.
However, it looks like an extra day off is now on the cards due to the upcoming general election.
Taoiseach Simon Harris has not yet confirmed an official date for the general election, but he has stressed that it will take place on a Friday before Christmas.
That means schools will likely close for one Friday in November or December.
The rumoured dates include November 22nd and 29th, and December 6th.
Schools will have to close to facilitate various polling booth locations.
Polling stations must remain open for 12 hours which means schools need to remain closed for the full day.
Speaking about the upcoming election, Harris stated: "I will decide, in line with the Constitution, the appropriate date to have the election. I like elections on a Friday. Friday is a good day to have an election. So therefore, there’s not that many Fridays to choose from."
Irish schools will next close for the October break from Monday, October 28th to Friday, November 1st.
