Italian Court Reinstates Guilty Verdict Against Amanda Knox And Raffaele Sollecito

An Italian court has reinstated the guilty verdict against Amanda Knox and her Italian ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. According to BBC News, the pair who had pleaded not guilty are now facing long jail sentences. Knox and Sollecito have now been found guilty for the murder of UK student Meredith Kercher, Knox's flatmate, in 2007. This verdict has now famously overturned the 2011 appeal where Knox and her ex-boyfriend were freed after spending four years in jail. The new appeal hearing, which took place in Florence, was ordered by the Italian Supreme Court and found that the 2011 appeal was flawed, according to BBC. The pair were cleared in 2011 after doubts were raised over procedures used to gather DNA evidence. Kercher was stabbed to death in the flat she shared with Knox in 2007. There have been several theories about what occurred on the evening in question, including a sex game that went wrong and a heated argument between Knox and Kercher over the cleanliness of their flat. Knox did not return for her the appeal in Florence, her brother and sister were present when the verdict was read out. Prosecutors have asked for jail terms for the pair that could amount to 26 years for Raffaele and 28 for Knox. Knox has announced she will appeal the verdict.
