Jim Carrey prepared to face trial over death of Irish ex-girlfriend

Jim Carrey had attempted to get a lawsuit over the death of Cathriona White thrown out of court.

Actor Jim Carrey will face a trial next April over claims that he used his "wealth, influence and celebrity status" to procure and provide the prescription drugs on which his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White overdosed. White, from Cappawhite in County Tipperary, was found dead in her home in Los Angeles in September 2015 at the age of 30. Her mother Brigid Sweetman and her husband Mark Burton are suing Carrey in LA. Carrey - through his lawyer Raymond Boucher - had asked for the case to be thrown out but Judge Deirdre Hill ruled that he must now face a jury over the wrongful death claims. He will stand trial under the Drug Dealer Liability Act. The 55-year-old star of The Mask and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - who has insisted in the past that the allegations are both "predatory" and "malicious" - will not attempt to settle the case, with Boucher insisting, "We are preparing for trial."
