Louis Vuitton owner instructs perfume factories to start producing hand sanitiser

Louis Vuitton owner, Bernard Arnault, has instructed a number of factories to produce hand sanitiser in response to a global shortage.

In the midst of the current coronavirus pandemic, LVHM (LVMH Moët Hennessy) has pledged to produce 12 tonnes of hydroalcoholic gel and that's just for starters. The hand sanitiser will be given free of charge to French authorities and hospitals with the LVMH chairman announcing the news over the weekend. According to Vogue, some of the factories that currently produce Christian Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy perfumes will manufacture hand sanitiser over the coming weeks. In a statement, the luxury conglomerate said:

“Through this initiative, LVMH intends to help address the risk of a lack of product in France and enable a greater number of people to continue to take the right action to protect themselves from the spread of the virus. "The gel will be delivered free of charge to the French health authorities and as a priority from this Monday to the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris.”

Hand sanitiser has been deemed effective as a deterrent against the spread of Covid-19 and it's expected that the first deliveries of the LVMH produced disinfectant will be made later today. LVHM owns a number of luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, Hennessy, Dom Pérignon, Fendi, Bulgari, and Christian Dior.
