Man arrested on suspicion of murder of Annie McCarrick

Annie McCarrick went missing in 1993

Gardaí confirmed that a male has been detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Dublin.

Gardaí have also commenced a search operation at a residence in Clondalkin, Dublin 22. Elements of that house and garden will be searched and subject to both technical and forensic examinations.

The current residents of this home are not connected in any way with Annie McCarrick or her disappearance.

In 1993, Annie vanished without a trace from her home in Sandymount, Dublin. Aged just 27, the young woman was never seen again.

Gardaí have been investigating her disappearance and alleged murder for over three decades.

What happened to Annie McCarrick?

Annie McCarrick from Long Island, New York, fell in love with Ireland after visiting the country when she was a teenager.

The student decided to permanently move from New York to Ireland in 1993.

Annie arrived in Ireland on January 4th, 1993, and she moved into rented accommodation in Sandymount with two housemates.

The 27-year-old went missing on Friday, March 26th, 1993.

Annie had left her apartment in Dublin to visit the Wicklow Mountains for the day. She was meant to go with her friend, but the friend declined the invitation.

Despite her friend’s rejection, she headed out on the day trip, where she reportedly visited Johnnie Fox’s pub in Glencullen.

Annie was reportedly planning on attending a traditional Irish event, but didn’t realise the pub was charging for it.

A male friend reportedly paid for Annie to attend the event with him. Nobody witnessed Annie or the male friend leave the pub on the day of her disappearance.

The man’s identity has never been confirmed, and the sighting at Johnnie Fox’s has often been disputed in the years following Annie’s disappearance.

Multiple searches took place following her disappearance, but Gardaí never discovered what happened to Annie McCarrick.
