“I was going to bed and I saw just a normal spider in my room. I was wondering because I had never seen a spider in this flat before and I’ve been living here for three years. He initially thought that it was a practical joke by one of his housemates - but soon realised it was a genuine snake.
He decided to call the Gardaí to deal with the situation and even they were unsure of his claims. When they did arrive to the house, the were shocked to find a 75cm (30 inches) snake curled up in Diego's bedroom.
While frightening to find, the snake was, thankfully, a non-venomous corn snake, that was most likely owned as a pet by someone living near to Diego.
The snake was captured using a wire clothes hanger and was then placed in a small cardboard box.
As it happened during the middle of the night, a specialist snake handler was not available at the time, which meant that the snake was reportedly kept in Garda custody until later in the morning.
