Met Éireann forecasts snow as wintry showers set to hit Ireland

Temperatures are set to plummet

While last week, we got to enjoy bright and sunny spells, the damp weather is set to return.

For the week ahead, Met Éireann said: "Low pressure dominates with rain or showers each day. A spell of wet and windy weather on Thursday will be followed by a transition to cooler air with wintry hazards possible."

Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with rain and drizzle becoming increasingly widespread as the day progresses.

Tuesday evening will see clear spells and scattered showers ‘follow from the west’.

There is a chance of hail along the western coastal counties, with patches of mist forming as temperatures fall to around 3°C.

However, Wednesday will bring spells of sunshine, making it mostly dry and bright. Scattered showers will persist mainly along the Atlantic coastal counties, while a few isolated showers may develop in the east.

Wednesday night will bring ‘fresh and gusty’ winds amid outbreaks of rain.

The national forecaster further stated that Thursday will be wet and windy with outbreaks of rain, before an icy blast hits the country.

For Thursday night, the Met Éireann said: "Generally cloudy with rain clearing early on. Turning colder with showers feeding in from the west, falling as sleet or snow in places.

"Some frost and ice will form with lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees, in moderate to fresh southwest winds."

Friday is set to be cool and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers. Met Éireann added: "The showers will fall as sleet and possibly snow at times."

Heading into the weekend, Saturday is likely to turn duller and milder, with cloud and rain spreading eastwards across the country.

The forecaster stated: "Current indications show a cool day on Sunday with blustery showers."
