Met Éireann have issued a snow-ice warning for one county ahead of this weekend.

The status yellow warning has been issued for Donegal. It will come into effect just after midnight on Saturday, and last until noon the same day. Weather forecasters have said that there will be a "spell of snow on Friday night and early Saturday morning, which will lead to "poor driving conditions." There will be accumulations of up to 3cm, although this may increase on higher ground. Looking towards the rest of the weekend, Met Éireann have said that it will be "cold and unsettled" with a risk of wintry precipitation - particularly in the north and north west. On Friday, there will be outbreaks of rain that will become widespread, with some heavy falls and a risk of spot flooding - particularly in parts of Munster. Rain will turn to sleet and snow in parts of north Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, with temperatures there falling close to freezing, but air temperatures elsewhere will range 2C to 6C. The highest temperatures will be in the south and southwest. Rain is forecast in the early morning on Saturday, with sleet and snow in some northern and northwestern areas. It will brighten up gradually from the northwest in the morning and the early afternoon, with scattered showers following. A forecaster added:

"However, it will turn much colder everywhere and some of the showers will turn wintry, especially in the north and west, but in other parts also, with hail, sleet and a risk of snow. "There is also a risk of thunder. Maximum afternoon temperatures 2C to 5C in the north and northwest, 6C to 9C elsewhere. "Winds mostly moderate northwesterly. Saturday night will be dry in many areas, but there will be further wintry showers, mainly in west Ulster, Connacht and west Munster. "Very cold, with widespread frost and a risk of icy stretches. Min. minus 2C to plus 2C.

Then on St. Patrick's Day, it will be a "cold, breezy day" with "sunny spells and scattered showers". The highest temperatures will reach 7C to 1C, before dropping as low as 1C in some parts of the country overnight.
