Add us as a preferred source on Google »Natalie Portman, known for her Oscar-winning performance in BlackSwan, is allegedly the frontrunner to portray the late Sinéad O’Connor in a new biopic based on the singer's life.
The film is a collaboration between three Irish production companies, and together they'll aim to capture O'Connor's extraordinary and often very turbulent life.
Sinéad O’Connor passed away at the age of 56 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma.
An insider told the Sun that Natalie Portman (44) is the top choice to play O'Connor in the new biopic.
"Natalie is the actress the filmmakers want to play Sinéad.
"They think she is the spit of Sinéad in terms of her physicality, but as an actress, they know she has the strength and power to do justice to Sinéad," the source said.
Additionally, Portman is no stranger to dramatic transformations, as she shaved her head for her role as Evey Hammond in V for Vendetta back in 2025.
One look at the actress with a shaved head, and we must agree, she is the spitting image of Sinéad.
The source added: "Natalie really is a triple threat, she can morph into characters, dance and sing, and is a true perfectionist.
"She would be a great signing for this."
Josephine Decker will be directing the biopic.
Decker was praised for her work on her 2020 film about horror writer Shirley Jackson’s work, starring Elisabeth Moss
Sinéad was a well-known and beloved figure in the music industry, often praised for speaking up about political and societal issues.
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer spoke out on issues such as women's rights, racism, child abuse, and organised religion, particularly the Catholic Church in Ireland.
"This film about Sinéad is going to be as unflinching and brutal as most of her life was, and Natalie is a dab hand at dark portrayals on camera," the source concluded.
