Nick Carter will not face charges over sexual assault allegations

Nick Carter will not face charges over sexual assault allegations that surfaced earlier this year.

The Backstreet Boys member was accused of rape by singer Melissa Schuman, who alleged that Carter forced her to have sex with him "against my will" over 15 years ago. Carter denied the allegations at the time saying that he was "shocked and saddened" by the accusation and claimed that it is “... contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.” PA reports that US prosecutors have said that Carter will not face charges over the allegation because the statute of limitations has expired. Carter's lawyer, Michael Holtz, said:

"Nick has denied these allegations ever since he first learned of them last year, and was confident the district attorney would conclude that there was no basis to pursue charges against him. "He is happy to put this matter behind him."

Schuman filed a report with US police last month. Early this year, she alleged in a blog post that she had been assault by Carter in his apartment when they were working on a movie together. She wrote that she was a virgin at the time, but claimed that Carter "didn't care."

"He shut the door and we continued to kiss. I asked him what we were doing in (the bathroom). He didn’t respond and continued to kiss me. "He then picked me up, put me on the bathroom counter and started to unbutton my pants. I told him I didn’t want to go any further. He didn’t listen. He didn’t care."

The statute of limitations for the alleged offence expired in 2013.
