The rain will then gradually make its way to the western half of Ireland and will be at its heaviest closest to the Atlantic.
The northern and eastern parts of the country will remain dry with sunny spells and temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees.
Sunday again will be a wet start with widespread falls of rain early in the morning, only to be followed by heavier showers and a chance of hail.
Met Eireann says this will mostly affect those in the west, but will also affect some counties in the south and north, with temperatures reaching 12 to 15 degrees.
As Easter Monday rolls around, the national forecaster says that conditions will remain unsettled with wind and hail headed for the north.
It said: "Feeling cooler with a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers, some possibly heavy with hail across the north.
"Highest temperatures of just 9 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds.
